December 31, 2004 at 5:30 PM the first volume of the "Joe Vig Publishing Demo" was put to CDR.

We have additional versions not yet on the demo - a female vocal on "Transporter", a "Red Sox" version of "There's Nothing Like A Hit" tracked in 1992, the two original versions of "Lejandami" and instrumental versions of "I Go Fast" and other tunes.

The "Demo" will expand as we get more of these assets transferred, put into the computer, and made available.

The "Transporter" and "I Go Fast" tracks were taped at Normandy Sound in Warren, R.I.
Engineered by Phil Greene. Jimmy Miller produced "I Go Fast" and did a co-arrangement of
"Transporter" (he had me remove one chord from the song). After Phil Greene got a good
drum machine going (Bobby Sutton was in earlier in the day to play drums on "I Go Fast" and the other three tracks), Joe Viglione tracked the folk version at around 3 A.M. 8/20/04.

"I Want You Sexually" was the first tape Jimmy Miller and Phil Greene ever worked on.
Phil Greene met us at Bunratty's one night and offered me free recording time to check out the studio. We brought Joe Petruzelli from The Joe Perry Project down to the studio with my band of guitarist Bryan Bradley, bassist Carolyn Casey, singer Jo Jo Laine, Deb Galiga (of The EXIs) and K.K. Proffitt. Joe Pet and Phil Greene were spending a couple of hours trading sounds (Phil Greene had his famous "Janet's Beaver" snare drum sound, a pastiche of Janet Jackson's "Nasty" with a Beaver Brown sound recorded at Normandy; it was Phil's favorite sample at the time. You hear that sample on "I Want You Sexually". Well, we were ready to record a rare and unreleased "Blood Red Wine" (written by Jagger & Richards, originally tracked by Miller - on the bootleg TAXILES ON MAIN STREET). We also had a new song of mine "I Love That Feeling" which Miller didn't like - reason being - the song takes a dramatic change from the usual pop song structure, a fusion of melodies. I recorded "Blood Red Wine" at Normandy during a session with a heavy metal band "Arch Rival" and "I Love That Feeling" with Jay And Scott Couper and possibly Eric Brown. We also re-tracked "Blood Red Wine" at Coubro Studios.

While waiting for Phil Greene and Joe Pet to finish their "baseball trading cards" style sound sample swapping, I sat in a corner of the recording studio area (not the engineering lab) and wrote the riff to "I Want You Sexually". Miller loved it. The band was a bit taken aback that we'd be switching tunes mid-stream - we'd worked months on "I Love That Feeling" and "Blood Red Wine". The first take was sloppy, the second take better, the third take was perfect.
Jimmy Miller said "I know what take I want." I replied "I know what take you want, I want it too." The band all said "The third take". Jimmy & I both knew the sloppy first take was the keeper. Mr. Miller said "We can punch in the mistakes on the bass and guitar, but the groove is there on the first take." He was absolutely right.

Jimmy had Carolyn Casey put a Bonie Maronie bassline down, then he had Jo Jo Laine, Ava Electris and Deb Galiga sing "Doo Wop" vocals. He asked me if I liked it. "No, but Jimmy, you're the guy who produced over 100 songs for The Rolling Stones. I can produce me anytime, have fun!" And Jimmy did. By letting the genius do his thing I showed my genius - not getting in the way of my own record. Six months later I realized what an amazing job Jimmy did on the track, it still stands to this day. Too many bands tried to tell Jimmy Miller how to produce their records and Miller would, understandably, get bored with them and go into a shell. Who do they think THEY were telling JIMMY how to make their recordings?

I was always respectful of Miller's talent; the one time I didn't take his production advice, during the Intuition Element sessions, was a major error. Jimmy said we should do 4 tracks, but I had a deadline to get New Rose an album. I should've just done 4 songs with Miller and put the rest of the material already recorded (the well-recorded demos we made FOR Miller to hear the material would've sufficed - they actually ended up on the American release anyway!). Jimmy was right - but at least my disagreement with him was a business decision, not an artistic one,
though I learned it impacted the art. That's why it was easy for me second time around to say "Have fun - it's your session." And Jimmy did.

Side note: Jimmy had jumped off of a bus in England that missed his stop! In jumping (he was over 6' tall and a bit heavy) he threw out a muscle in his back. He didn't want to make the Normandy session and was laid up in bed (the couch in the living room at 30 Dragon Court that turned into a bed) when he came to the U.S. from England. Joe Pet gave Jimmy a "horse pill" as they called it, some (legit, I believe) medication - and Jimmy was able to make the drive down to Warren Rhode Island and we tracked the session.

BMI Song #4632079

SAIL AWAY
Words: Jon Macey
Music: Jon Macey/Joe Viglione

on an endless journey back and forth
drifting from the darkness to the source
my destiny has taken me this course
i want to sail away
nothing left to say
like two birds on the waves
i do not fear the figures in my dreams
lightened, dancing, breaking through the beams
they're leading me to find out what this means
i want to sail away
nothing left to say
like two birds on the waves

in my washed out diamond eyes shines the struggle that we bear
i have to face these feelings when i look around
look around here
i want to sail away
nothing left to say
like two birds on the waves_____________________________

TRANSPORTER

Another Minute
Another hour
I'd transport you here/if I had the power the power
on board the starship/deep in the night
i'll be your Captain Kirk/you can hold your captain tight
so I wait a little while
I just can't wait to see you smile

In another lifetime/we must've met
in the last harmonic convergence/5000 years I just couldn't forget you...

36. I REFLECT LOVE BMI Catalog # 675158

a bit out of time/out of place you know, it's hard to go back again

like a river of

all of these things/in a mirror under magical skies you will know/when you realize I Reflect Love Love, Reflect Love Reflect love love, reflect love Reflect love love, reflect love I've done all I can is true/
you've given it all away you sit there in silence/i have nothing left to say so we journey to the things we've seen, dreams that are so real nothing's going in reverse and it all comes down to feel and a journey to the things we've seen and dreams that are so real and it's all in the left out verse so it all comes down to feel

Original phonetic version which made no sense:

There was a time/and a place you know/ i want to go back again
in a mirror/all the love inside
like you never felt before

all of these things/in a mirror under magical skies
and you know/when you realize

I Reflect Love Love, Reflect Love
Reflect love love, reflect love
Reflect love love, reflect love

I've done all I can is true/you've given it all away
you sit there in silence/i have nothing left to say
so we journey to the things we've seen, dreams that are so real
nothing's going in reverse
and it all comes down to feel

and a journey to the things we've seen
and dreams that are so real
and it's all in the left out verse
so it all comes down to feel

25. GO ON BMI Catalog #480933

Words by Joe Viglione
Music by Eric Brown

Well I walk/away
I'm on display
Can't see, through the fog
I go on

And the shadows, they fall
after all
don't know, where to turn
I go on

Breaking through the dreams that grew
breaking deep inside to you
breaking breaking breaking blue I go on

Here, it's so dark
each star a spark
they light my way, as I go on
These things begin
coming all around again
and it is the living end, I go on

Breaking through the dreams we knew
I'm breaking breaking breaking through
oh so deep inside to you, I go on
breaking on a dream we knew
I'm breaking on a wave so new
I'm breaking on that wave of view I go on

The Minute Impression
Words & Music Joe Viglione
Var Music Publishing, BMI

Track #19 Joe Viglione Publishing Catalog

BMI Song #994637
MINUTE IMPRESSION

The light go forward in quick succession/they fade from view the light go forward in a mad procession/shimmering rays break through

The minute impression/light go forward quick succession the minute impression/the minute impression

The heartbeat stronger when it's felt/with some hurt, with others melt the heartbeat stronger when you come/a new feeling I don't know where it's from

the minute impression/light go forward quick succession

Song #1. AGAIN 4561166

I feel that rain descend
in buckets from the sky
it forms a dazzling display of want at my door
your love comes rushing back to me, just like before
I want to hold you in the / morning light
we'll watch the sun rise in love
oh, I want to Rock You Again
like you've never been rocked before
I'm going to hold you and squeeze you and kiss you and love you
a display so refined on the second time around

Oh, I'm gonna rock you again
like you've never been rocked before
rock you again and again and again
rock you again and again and again
again
again
again
again

COUNT (Buy CDs by this artist)I'm a Star (French Flamingo) 1979Love & Flame (French New Rose) 1982The Intuition Element (VAR International) 1984
The Count — Joseph A. Viglione — has been a visible and important fixture on the local Boston scene ever since the mid-'70s. Besides recording and performing his own material, he's published fanzines, promoted concerts, produced other bands and operated the Varulven label. Oddly enough, his first two albums have never been issued outside France.
I'm a Star owes quite a bit to the influence of the Velvet Underground and, like Lou Reed, the Count knows how to make the most of a voice with a limited range. The tracks — many previously issued in the US on singles and EPs — are appealing because of their simple, romantic outlook on life. Love & Flame finds the Count in a more mainstream new wave format. At times, he tries too hard as a vocalist, and parts are overarranged, but it's still a generally listenable record.
The Intuition Element, dynamically produced by veteran Jimmy Miller, is a highly charged near-metal rock album filled with blistering guitar solos (credit Fudge Keegan), thundering drums and more of the Count's individualistic songs. A lot heavier than usual, but above average (except for some awkward vocals and lyrics) as such things go.[Charles P. Lamey/Ira Robbins]
